![]() ![]() Similarly, you can't take major classes until you get accepted into the major (which usually isn't until your junior year), so that can delay the graduation process if you don't schedule and plan your degree right.īecause of the large student body, everyone is clawing for everything- registration for classes is a nightmare, long lines at dining halls and events, etc. Junior: Love the campus! The coursework is rigorous no matter your major, but there's tons of classes that are so niche and interesting to explore! This school will give you a challenge for sure! Having to apply to your major is a huge downside- there's a decent chance you might not get to study what you want if the major is competitive and your GPA and statements aren't competitive enough (there's just too many students). As a Big 10 school with actual diversity, Illinois has it all. Classes can be challenging, but they prepare you for upper level courses and are a big part of the reason the school has such a good reputation. As a psychology student I would warn that certain majors require careful planning- especially anyone on a pre-health track- as classes fill up quickly or are only offered certain semesters. There is something to do any night of the week, and people willing to go with you. ![]() At the same time, everyone knows how to have fun- in or outside of greek life. Seeing this motivates everyone to be the best student they can be, and almost everyone I know is involved in multiple RSO's including professional ones. You are surrounded by people who are extremely dedicated, getting high GPA's while conducting research or securing competitive internships. The campus is a perfect blend of the, "work hard, play hard" mindset. Sophomore: I am so grateful for my experiences at Illinois. I feel like making sure I receive the best possible education is truly a priority here. Just in my first year, I've been able to form relationships with so many professors, make connections with different people in my field of study, and have personalized classroom experiences. As someone who lives on campus despite being from the area, I can confidently say that once the school year starts you're so busy with classes, new experiences, and new friends that it feels like an entirely different world. ![]() Being on campus with a completely different mindset as a prospective student changed my perspective and once the tour was over I didn't want to even look anywhere else. Norbert wasn't a college that was originally on my list since its in my hometown and I was worried about being so close to home, but I made an impulse decision to sign up for a tour and see what happens and I fell in love. Sophomore: So far, I love it here! As a senior in high school, St. Some professors courses are incredibly unorganized and were more about them showing off than helping students. On the other hand some professors were so incredibly bad that I changed my major to something outside of their discipline. Some of the professors are amazing and passionate and the reason why I changed my major to economics. Some advisors are incredible and give you a breath of information and provide you with a ton of resources but some advisors left me with more questions than answers. My only complaints are that the advisors can be hit or miss. There are so many ways to get involved and a club for EVERY interest, both personal and professional. The fitness centers on campus have classes, personal training, and top notch equipment. Every day I discover a new opportunity for professional and personal growth and the resources for mental and physical health are phenomenal. Sophomore: The student organizations, resources for students, and variety of courses is incredible. ![]()
